Case Study: Gran Torino & Bar Torino

Neil Perry’s latest venture immerses patrons in high-quality, yet virtually-invisible, audio.

Neil Perry’s Bar Torino features an audio system that exemplifies cutting-edge design and seamless integration. AV designer Paul Cavallaro selected K-Array’s ultra-compact Lyzard KZ14 micro arrays—each barely larger than a matchbox—paired with low-profile subwoofers from the Thunder, Rumble, and Truffle ranges. These speakers deliver exceptional sonic performance while remaining virtually invisible. Cavallaro worked closely with architects and builders to embed the KZ14s flush within dark-stained timber strips, finishing them in complementary colors to ensure they blend perfectly with the venue’s sleek interiors. Patrons experience immersive, evenly distributed sound without any visible hardware, thanks to meticulous positioning and fine-tuning via K-Array KA34 and KA18 amplifiers.

For DJ performances, the bar employs larger K-Array Python KP102I column loudspeakers discreetly positioned at either end of the bar, again supported by concealed subwoofers integrated into banquette joinery. This design achieves powerful, dynamic audio without compromising the speakeasy aesthetic. Upstairs at Gran Torino, Sonance Invisible speakers installed behind plasterboard extend the hidden audio concept, using transducer technology to turn walls and ceilings into sound-radiating surfaces. Combined with Q-SYS control for seamless operation, the entire system ensures patrons are bathed in rich, balanced sound while remaining completely unaware of the sophisticated technology behind the experience.
